We recognize that our food purchasing decisions have a significant environmental, economic and social impact, and
that by incorporating local sustainable food into our product offering, we can work toward improving the economic vitality, environmental sustainability, and quality of life in Ontario.
As a responsible business and a leader in our community, we are committed to doing our part, bbuying from local sustainable farmers and producers wherever possible.
To help accomplish this, we work with Local Food Plus (LFP), an award-winning non-profit organization that certifies farmers and processors who:
1. Work to reduce or eliminate synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, and conserve soil and water;
2. Protect and enhance wildlife habitat and biodiversity;
3. Provide safe and fair working conditions for on-farm labour;
4. Provide healthy and humane care for livestock;
5. Reduce on-farm energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions;
6. Sell their products locally and regionally whenever possible.
We also recognize that this values-based approach to farming yields food with greater inherent value, and that it may cost farmers more to produce in this manner. Pantry is committed to paying a fair price to support those who achieve LFP's standards for environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
You can support local sustainable farmers too, by asking for LFP certified food anywhere else you shop and dine.
